Santorini

I'm in Oia on the Island of Santorini. It's hard to explain how wonderful it is to be here, and I have to admit I've already cried twice today at how beautiful it is. This is one of those places I've dreamed of visiting for as long as I can remember, but never, ever thought I would actually get to visit. I think I thought I would have to be rich first, but the ferry was a short, inexpensive 7 hour trip from Athens. And flights to Athens are super cheap once you get to Europe. And you can fly from Canada to Europe on Zoom Airlines for next to nothing. Just a plug in case anyone out there is thinking of Greece! Anyway, I know I've skipped Athens pictures, and I will come back to them. But I'm just so excited about Oia, here are some pictures I took tonight. It's overcast, so it will probably look completely different in the proper Grecian sunshine. And sunsets are supposed to be beautiful. More to come!
This was by far the biggest ferry I've ever been on. I know it doesn't compare to a cruise ship, but still! We left Athens as the sun was coming up.
This is Oia from the sea. Isn't it amazing how the buildings are all perched on the side of a cliff.
The famous church (I know, this picture has been done before).
My view at dinner. I had traditional Oia garlic pasta... so delicious. Click on this picture so you can see the detail in full size. Amazing!

I'm so glad you are enjoying yourself! And I'm glad to hear that the beauty of Greece that, as you said, we've all seen before in photos, still makes a real impact and makes you happy when you're there in real life. Someday I'll join you in Greece!

Kathy, you are indeed living my dream seeing Santorini. Bill and I have booked a Mediterrean Cruise in September, sadly this is not one of our ports, but we will see Mykonos and Athens. Have fun. Love Aunt Carole
