Leaving Taiwan

My week has flown by in Taipei. It was a great chance to reconnect with Julia & KB, teachers at the school and random friends that I made throughout my time here. Nothing has changed, and I could see myself fitting back into my groove quite easily. That possibility is at least two years away though! One afternoon Julia and I went to afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel. Very grand indeed.
It was built by Chiang Kai-shek because he wanted a five star hotel worthy of housing visiting dignitaries. Although it's no longer the grandest hotel in Taipei, it's still a glamorous option for tourists.

The highlight of my time here was dinner with Julia and Kathleen. We wished that Louise could be there too, but we sent happy thoughts to "pilgrim Louise." When Julia thinks of Louise, she pictures her walking through Spain in a bonnet, brown dress and shoes with buckles. And a turkey under her arm, of course.
Anyway, I feel very lucky to have had this chance to catch up with these two (we're all a bit sporadic on the "keeping-in-touch" thing). It's nice to know that good friends will always be there, as long as you can keep track of what country they are in!
